A taste of history

"I chose the Port Louis historical and street food tour which lasted 3 hours. I have been to PL the capital before but just on mundane trips to get a new passport etc.. nothing this exciting as exploring the streets for some of the best street food on the Island and learning about the history of Mauritius" says Selina

Flavours of Mauritius

"I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND DOING ONE OF MY MORIS TOURS WHILE IN MAURITIUS, IT’S A GREAT WAY TO GET OUT AND ABOUT WHILE LEARNING SOMETHING NEW ABOUT THE ISLAND’S CULTURE, HISTORY AND FOOD AND HOW THIS IS ALL INTERLINKED TOGETHER."

Extracts of a post from Taste Mauritius – A food blog created by Selina sharing amazing flavours of Mauritius

Our lovely guide Yianna explained how My Moris was set up by Shakti and Maya who both shared a love of history, cuisine and anthropology. They started with three tours and then expanded due to popularity.

There are the historical bits taken care of! We walked the streets first stopping by a well-known vendor who sold gateaux piment and piment cari (battered chilli peppers) hot and freshly cooked in a paper bag.

We stopped by an amazing Chinese bakery, nestled down a small sidewalk, with two chairs perched outside and a few people huddled around eating their cakes. A small shop that was stacked with freshly cooked gateau gingli (sesame balls, glutinous rice flour or sweet potato with a lentil filling) these were my favourite just freshly cooked and so addictive.

Our last stop was in the market in Port Louis among the clothes sellers there was a lady who served rotis with cari, pumpkin chutney and chillies. The rotis were super soft, rolled thinly cooked on the spot and delicious to eat straight away.
